What is the Longest Jail Sentence Ever?

Adam Banner - Monday, September 16, 2013

Ariel Castro's punishment is chump-change compared to some of the prison sentences that have been handed out in Oklahoma.

With all the talk about his "life sentence plus 1,000 years," the cynic in me immediately jumped at the news that Castro had committed suicide after serving approximately one month of his life sentence. I guess it's time for him to start those 1,000 years left on his tab.

Consequently, lots of folks have asked me if Castro's sentence was excessively long or "out of the ordinary." While the sentence is long, it was meant to send a message. Obviously, the court wanted to put its foot down and make a statement.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records however, a man sentenced to 30,000 years in Oklahoma has the distinct honor of receiving the longest prison sentence in history.
