U.S. Supreme Court to Review Oklahoma Abortion Laws

Adam Banner - Wednesday, July 31, 2013

Oklahoma has a history of testing the waters on the issue of abortion. As such, it looks like our state has now ushered in a new national discussion regarding a woman's constitutional right to choose, and the United States Supreme Court wants to weigh-in. You can read my in-depth report and analysis at Jurist.Org if you CLICK HERE.

This is an extremely important issue. Back in 2011, the Legislature passed a law which would put further restrictions on the rights of Oklahoma women to procure non-surgical abortions. The law was quickly challenged and struck down. The State of Oklahoma appealed the decision, and in late 2012, the Oklahoma Supreme Court agreed that the restrictions were unconstitutional.

Well, the State of Oklahoma again filed an appeal, this time to the United States Supreme Court, which has accepted the case for consideration. First though, the High Court has directed Oklahoma to provide a few answers regarding the state's stance on the issue. Those answers could be the beginning of a whole new battle between "pro-choice" and "pro-life" activists.

Every Oklahoman (and probably every American) should educate themselves on these developing issues.

Where do you stand?
