Edmond Man Accused of Child Pornography, "Sextortion"

An Edmond man faces federal child pornography charges after allegedly soliciting nude pictures of a 14-year-old girl in Florida, and then threatening to leak the images if she ended their online relationship.

Carlos Alexander Davila, 23, is charged in United States District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma with production and possession of child pornography related to the incident.

According to a news release by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Oklahoma, Davila contacted the girl in Marchc 2016 after seeing a Facebook post about her friend's suicide. Davila allegedly told the girl that he was studying to be a psychologist, and that he would help her deal with the grief of her friend's death. The two began exchanging messages via Facebook, and later through the app Kik.

At some point during their communication, Davila allegedly asked the teen for nude pictures in exchange for his help and emotional support. Reports say the girl told the man that she was only 14 years old, but he replied that it didn't matter. The Florida girl then sent him the nude images he allegedly requested.

Eventually, the girl tried to end the online relationship and asked him to delete the images, but said Davila began to threaten her, saying he would keep every image and even publish them online if she ended the relationship. He is accused of using a phone number spoofing app to send messages to the girl that appeared to be from other phone numbers in order to make her think he had published her nude photos and contact information.

When Edmond police executed a search of Davila's computer and phone, they reportedly found pornographic images of the 14-year-old Florida girl as well as other images of child pornography.

Under 18 U.S. Code § 2252, the production of child pornography or the interstate receipt of child pornography is punishable by 5 to 20 years in prison. Under this same statute, possession of child pornography is punishable by a maximum of 10 years in prison if the minor involved is aged 12 or older, but by 20 years if the child is under the age of 12.
