Ada Man Uses Porn Mags as Body Armor in Knife Fight

08-Nov-2017

You shouldn't bring a knife to a gunfight, but according to one southeastern Oklahoma man, you should bring porn magazines to a knife fight.

Donald Gene Gaither, 49, of Ada, had a bone to pick with his neighbor, Troy Bagley. Gaither blamed Bagley for getting him kicked out of the trailer park where both men once lived, and he wanted to settle the score.

According to reports, Gaither went to the trailer where Gaither lived and stood outside armed with four knives. With one knife in each and and two tucked in his belt, the angry neighbor allegedly yelled, "Come out and get some!"

Rather than coming outside to fight Gaither, Bagley called police.

When Pontotoc County sheriff’s deputies arrived, they reportedly found Gaither walking away from the residence, knives still in hand. Deputies say that when Gaither saw them, he picked up the pace and tried to quickly walk away while attempting to hide the knives.

Deputies stopped the man, who told them he was in "survival mode." They found not only the four knives, but also a weight attached to a lanyard, which he apparently intended "to use as a weapon to swing at someone."

Law enforcement agents also noticed a bulge in Gaither's shirt. When they investigated, they discovered that the man had taped several adult magazines to his torso to use as makeshift body armor.

Gaither reportedly told deputies that he had learned the trick in prison, saying he had served time before and that he knew what to do to protect himself.

The man's earlier prison stint was for conviction of charges including aggravated assault and battery, robbery, possession of stolen property and extortion.

Deputies arrested the man on complaints of assault with a dangerous weapon and possession of an offensive weapon.
